12/9/12: Stampede dominant over the weekend

The locals booked two decisive victories over the weekend beating Sac United 5-1 and Placer United 4-0.  In Saturday's final league game against Sacramento, Lily Byrne opened up the scoring with a liner from the 18 and Jordan Davis followed a few minutes later as she finished a bouncing ball in the box at close range.  Anne Ayotte then blasted in a 25-yarder making it 3-0 at the half.  After intermission, Ayotte assisted Davis who broke away for the fourth goal and Byrne did the same for Adeline Umphress who scored the fifth and final goal from the right side of the box.  A late goal from the opponent made the final score 5-1.  Tough defending from Grace Carlson and Yasmeen Dmeiri stifled Sacramento's offensive efforts throughout the match.  Sunday the Stampede faced Placer United in State Cup play.  Davis connected with Grace Barger inside the goal box for the first goal.  Soon after, Alex Hanna's aggressive challenge on a Placer defender deep in the box resulted in a failed clear and a close range tally for goal number two.  In the second half, Davis muscled a ball through the keeper's arms making it 3-0 and then Umphress found the unmarked Sydney Moore at the six who in turn netted the fourth and final goal of the shutout.

11/18/12: Stampede split over the weekend

The locals bested Placer United 3-2 Saturday morning but could not overcome FC Elk Grove later that afternoon, as they lost 3-1.

11/11/12: Stampede illin'

The Stampede were shut out over the weekend with a loss to San Juan 1-0 Saturday and then to FC Elk Grove 2-0 Sunday.

10/28/12: Stampede win U12 Lily Nisen Memorial!

The Stampede took first place in the U12 division of the annual Lily Nisen Memorial Tournament hosted by Davis Legacy Soccer Club this past weekend. The locals breezed through Game 1, beating the Spanish Springs Lady Jaguars 6-0.  In addition to two own-goals by the opponent, Jordan Davis scored twice while McKenna Lutzker knocked in a close range tally and Allie Belafsky buried a long range shot from beyond the 18.  The Stampede continued strong against Barcelona Norcal in Game 2 with a goal by Lily Byrne in the first few minutes and another in the second half by J. Davis, assisted by Anne Ayotte.  Final score was 2-1.  The Stampede then beat the Vacaville Vipers 3-1.  Ayotte scored first on an assist by J. Davis  who in turn scored on a rebound off of a long range shot by Ayotte.  Byrne scored the third goal on a breakaway from a through ball by Lutzker. The championship contest matched the Stampede against their fellow U11 rival USA Stars.  Knotted at 0 after regulation, the game headed into overtime.  With the ball on the right wing, striker Alex Hanna made a long run from midfield into the box and was able to one-touch a bounding ball from Byrne past the charging Stars keeper and into the back of the net, cementing the win and the 1st place trophy for the Stampede.

Special thanks to Coach Alex Park who led the girls to victory filling in for Rozie these past two weekends.

10/21/12: Stampede strong in a five game weekend!

The Stampede played five close games over the weekend resulting in two wins, two ties and one loss.  The first was a league game with BOCA of Sacramento at the the Davis Legacy Soccer Complex, Friday Night Lights style.  Down 0-2 in the second half, Jordan Davis was able to knock in a ball  bobbled by the opposing keeper.  Davis then drilled in the equalizer from 25 yards late for a final score of 2-2.  Saturday and Sunday were dedicated to the annual OctoBOOfest tournament hosted by Sacramento United at Granite Park.  In their first match, the Stampede faced a San Juan Spirits team that at times seemed to be better prepared for American football than for the European version.  Despite the bruises, neither team was able to score and time ran out to produce the Stampede's second tie in just 18 hours.  The locals then met the ACC Mavericks Dynamite in the tournament's second game and their third in 24 hours.  Understandably fatigued, the Stampede could not catch their opponent this time.  Down 0-2, Anne Ayotte was able to clean up Yasmeen Dmeiri's long shot attempt with a close range goal to make it 1-2.  But the game would end there.  A good night's sleep and the fresh taste of defeat seemed to motivate the locals Sunday.  They met FC Elk Grove in the morning, the toughest team in their bracket and outplayed them with sound, elegant soccer.  Dmeiri drilled in the game's only goal on a free kick from 30 yards out.  The Stampede then beat American River Freedom to win the bronze, 1-0.  It was a fitting way to end the weekend, as Ayotte netted the final tally on a cross from Davis, Barcelona style.  Tough midfield and backfield defense from Emily Speakman, Grace Carlson and Sydney Moore kept the Stampede close all weekend long.

10/14/12: Stampede still unbeaten this fall

The Stampede continued their unbeaten streak for the fall season with two weekend shutouts at the Davis Legacy Soccer Complex.  They bested Sac United 2-0 Saturday morning in Norcal league play.  The two goals came from athletic plays by Jordan Davis in the first half and Lily Byrne in the second.  The locals then beat the Cal Cougars of Stockton 2-0 in a preliminary round State Cup match on Sunday.  Anne Ayotte scored twice, first off an assist from Byrne and then, in the second half, when she overpowered the Cougar keeper with a low heater from the 18.  Tremendous defensive play came from Sophie Karperos, Skye Schaffer, Grace Barger, Yasmeen Dmeiri and keepers McKenna Lutzker and Alex Hanna, who kept the opponents from scoring all weekend.

10/7/12: One win, one tie over the weekend

The Stampede faced Placer United and Loomis in two matches over the weekend at the Davis Legacy Soccer Complex.  The locals easily got past Placer 4-0 Saturday in a regular Norcal league game.  Anne Ayotte scored first on a Jordan Davis assist and Ayotte returned the favor to Davis for the second goal. Two second half goals come on Skye Schaffer's long range blast followed by a close range tally by Davis on a corner kick from Jasmeen Dmeiri.  The Stampede faced a tougher Loomis team Sunday in first round State Cup play.  Down 0-1 after an early surprise goal from the opponent, the locals fought back all game to finally find the equalizer late in the second half on a close range shot by Davis, producing a final score of 1-1.

9/15/12: Stampede sneak by San Juan

The Stampede eked out a 2-1 victory over the San Juan Spirits last Saturday at the Davis Legacy Soccer Complex.  Despite a couple of opportunities in the first half, it took the locals until about midway through the second to score their first goal which came from Grace Barger when she knocked in a ricocheting ball inside the six.  However, San Juan found the equalizer soon after. The hard fought contest remained knotted at 1 until late when an unmarked Anne Ayotte intercepted the now tiring defense's attempt to clear the ball, unleashing a left-footed blast from 25 yards out for the game winner.

09/09/12: Stampede victorious in weekend matches

The locals started off a winning weekend Saturday afternoon by beating Sacramento's Capital Athletic Soccer Club Boca 4-3 in their first Norcal fall league game.  Jordan Davis scored two goals, one on an assist from Lily Byrne and the other on a second half breakaway.  Anne Ayotte netted another off a hard cross from Davis, and Byrne scored on a body shot off an artful corner kick by Yasmeen Dmeiri.  The girls traveled to Fairfield Sunday morning and bested the North Bay Elite in a qualifying round of the State Cup, 3-1.  Davis again netted two, the first assisted by Ayotte.  Adeline Umphress scored the third on a left-footer from inside the penalty area.

8/19/12: Stampede Take Silver at Super Clásico

The Stampede opened the Davis Legacy Super Clásico tournament Saturday morning with a solid 4-1 win over Elk Grove, with goals coming two each from Jordan Davis and Grace Barger.  Things turned ugly for the locals in Game 2, as the El Dorado Stars shut them out 6-0.  Despite the stomping, the Stampede emerged supercharged Sunday morning to crush Orangevale 11-1. Goals came from Jordan Davis (4), Lily Byrne (3), Barger (2), Alex Hanna (1) and Skye Schaffer (1).  Key assists came from Anne Ayotte (3), Sophie Karperos, Yasmeen Dmeiri and Byrne.  The two convincing wins put the locals in the tournament final Sunday afternoon, once again to face the dominant Stars.  This time, however, the Stampede showed tremendous toughness and heart.  Late in the first half, they drew first blood on a free kick as Lily Byrne received and buried Yasmeen Dmeiri's superb cross from far beyond the 18 on the opposite side of the field.  The second half witnessed even tougher play as the locals held off an ever advancing El Dorado offensive.  Incredible team defense kept the Stampede close all the way to the end.  Goal keeper McKenna Lutzer made countless saves while Karperos, Byrne, Dmeiri, Schaffer, Ayotte, Barger, Sydney Moore and Grace Carlson stymied their frustrated opponents again and again until the Stars finally broke through, eventually scoring three goals to win the tournament.

7/15/12: Smooth sailing at Santa Rosa

It was Davis 3, opponents 0 at Norcal's Play Date #7 in Santa Rosa.  In a tough Game 1, the locals beat  the Modesto Ajax's U10 team 2-1.  Anne Ayotte scored almost immediately after the opening whistle when she stole the kickoff pass and netted a hard grounder before the befuddled defense knew what hit them.  Modesto played solid soccer throughout and found an equalizer late in the game. However, on a goalkeeper miscue, both Ayotte and teammate Skye Schaffer were able to knock in the game winner amidst a goal line scrum.  Game 2 was all Davis as they punished Santa Rosa's U10 team 3-0.  Goals came from Ayotte assisted by Emily Speakman, Kaitlyn McElhern assisted by Skye Schaffer and from Alex Hanna.  The locals' dominance continued in Game 3 as they beat Sonoma County Alliance 5-1. Yasmeen Dmeiri opened the scoring with a free kick from beyond the 18. The next four came from Lily Byrne, McElhern, Ayotte and Hanna.

6/24/12: Stampede take two of three in Fairfield

The locals logged two wins and a tie last Sunday at Norcal's Playdate #6 hosted by the North Bay Elite FC.  Game 1 was a 5-0 rout over the Elk Grove Everton FC Blues.  Goals came on two penalty kicks taken by Yasmeen Dmeiri, with three more on shots by Adeline Umphress, Sophia Karperos and Lily Byrne.  The Stampede then beat the Capital Athletic Soccer Academy Boca, 3-1, which featured a rare end-to-end goal by keeper McKenna Lutzker after the opposing goalie was unable to handle the high bouncing punt.  Two more came from Jordan Davis and Dmeiri.  Game 3 presented more of a challenge and, despite numerous Stampede shots and better ball possession, the locals could do no better than a 1-1 tie, the first-half score coming from Grace Barger assisted by J. Davis.

6/17/12: Stampede win 3 of 4 at Cal Cup in Sacramento

The locals braved both 100+ temperatures and a very tough top bracket this past weekend in Sacramento as they took 3 of 4 games at the Cal Cup tournament held at Cherry Island Soccer Complex.  In Game 1 against Santa Clara, the Stampede struck early on a close range goal by Sophia Karperos.  Santa Clara later found the equalizer, but Lily Byrne was able to power in a left-footed  game winner after teammate Jordan Davis blasted a free kick that nearly took down the crossbar.  Game 2 matched Davis against the San Juan Spirits. Once again the Stampede found a way past their opponent, 2-1, on two goals by Grace Barger. One was assisted by Byrne and the game winner came on Barger's drive from the 18.  The girls faced Modesto's Ajax Elite in Game 3 who, despite being outplayed for much of the first half, were able to shut the locals down 2-0, thereby erasing Davis' hopes for a medal. The Stampede then defeated the Diablo FC Extreme in the consolation game and yet again came away with a 2-1 win, both goals coming on breakaways by Jordan Davis, assisted by Kaitlyn McElhern.

6/3/12: Stampede salvage one at Playdate #5

Despite two losses vs. Modesto Ajax (0-2) and MFC Benfica (0-2), the Stampede were able to bounce back against Elk Grove and eek out a 2-1 victory.  Goals came from Kaitlyn McElhern and Jordan Davis.

5/13/12: Stampede Take 3rd at Super Clásico Spring Tourney

Despite a slow start in last weekend's Mothers' Day soccer fest out at the complex, the Stampede were able to finish third after a tie, a loss and two wins.  Matched up against the Eureka Shamrocks of Granite Bay in Game 1, the Stampede could do no better than a 0-0 stalemate despite the barrage of shots generated throughout the match.  In Game 2 they faced the Ajax of Modesto but could not find their way past this powerhouse, giving up the loss 3-0.  Sunday started on a more positive note as the locals blasted the San Juan Spirits white team 8-0.  Goals came from Lily Byrne (2), Anne Ayotte (3), Jordan Davis (2) and Grace Barger (1).  In the 3rd place final, the Stampede were matched up against the San Juan Spirits blue team and played solidly to capture the bronze.  The game featured goals from Jordan Davis on an assist from Byrne, a reciprocal goal from Byrne on an assist from Davis, and another from Ayotte from beyond the 18. The Stampede defense once again weighed in heavily with strong work from Yasmeen Dmeiri, Sophia Karperos, Skye Schaffer, Grace Carlson, Sydney Moore and keepers McKenna Lutzker and Alex Hanna.

5/6/12: Stampede dominate in Manteca

The locals showed their dominance last Sunday in Manteca as they won all three games at Norcal's Playdate #3.  Game 1 was a 7-0 rout against the Fair Oaks Freedom. Kaitlin McElhern opened the scoring with a left-footed blast.  Lily Byrne followed with two more goals, one a "dribble-drive to the net" and another on a quick tap-in after a goalkeeping error.  Jordan Davis added the third goal on yet another lapse by the Fair Oaks keeper.  After the half, Yasmeen Dmeiri made it 5-0 and Adeline Umphress netted the last two on assists from Dmeiri and Sophia Karperos.  In Game 2, the Stampede edged FC Elk Grove 2-1.  Surprised by an early goal, the Stampede's Byrne threaded through the Elk grove side on the ensuing kickoff to tie the game 1-1.  Jordan Davis then put the locals up for good with a goal off a perfect pass from Karperos.  In a very physical second half, strong defense from keepers McKenna Lutzker and Alex Hanna, and defenders Dmeiri, Karperos, Emily Speakman, Skye Schaffer and Grace Carlson secured the win.  Physical play continued in Game 3 vs. the GSC Gryphon Red but Davis prevailed in the 3-1 contest.  Byrne set up Anne Ayotte for the first goal from the 18 after which Ayotte returned the favor to Byrne for the match's second goal.  Ayotte netted the final goal at close range after weaving past several defenders inside the goal box.

Strong work, Stampede!

4/12/12: Stampede off to solid start

The Stampede had a win, a loss and a tie this past weekend at Norcal's Playdate #2 in Stockton.  Down 0-1 in the first game against Manteca, Jordan Davis scored from the right side on an assist from Lily Byrne to tie the game.  After a second-half penalty, Manteca was back on top, 2-1.  However, the Stampede came back to finalize the tie after Jordan Davis netted her second goal of the match on a breakaway.  Goalkeeper Alex Hanna made key saves all game long.  Game 2 matched the Stampede against Sac United who came away with the victory, 3-1.  Yasmeen Dmeiri scored late with a towering drive from outside the 18.  The Stampede found their stride again in the final game, beating Elk Grove 4-3.  Jordan Davis pounded in 3 more goals, two on assists from Anne Ayotte (one being a corner).  Ayotte found the net herself on an assist from Byrne.  Great defense included tough play from Emily Speakman, Alex Hanna and Sophie Karperos.
