10/31/15: Stampede Scare Off Bay Oaks

Although haunted by ghosts and goblins that rose from Alameda Community College's terrible turf, the locals overcame their fears and sent their opponent to a shallow grave on Halloween afternoon.  Lily "Beastly" Byrne drew first blood with an early goal from the six and two more came from Jordan "Dracula" Davis who turned the defense into zombies, assisted by Ainsley "the Creature" Carroll. McKenna "the Monster" Lutzker spooked anyone who dared to come near the evil arc and then hung her clean sheet in the howling wind only to find it later soaked with Frankenstein's blood.

Then everyone ate lots of candy.

10/18/15: Stampede Finish State Cup Rounds Strong

The locals added two more shutouts to their record as they finished the preliminary State Cup rounds against Rocklin and Loomis.  The 6-0 "Rocklin Romp", as it's now called, featured two goals each by Lily Byrne, Anne Ayotte and Jordan Davis, with assists by Ayotte, Talyssa Tucker and Skye Shaffer. They beat Loomis a day later 3-0 with Tucker and Sophie Karperos exchanging goals and assists followed by a Byrne's through ball to Niya Allen who finished things up 3-0.

10/11/15: Locals Over Manteca in NPL game

The Stampede overcame a slow start to beat the Manteca Red Stars 4-2 in NPL play. Kicking off after the opponent's early goal, Anne Ayotte noticed the opposing keeper far, far off her line and tied the score with a long ball into the open net. Ayotte later sent a through ball to Lily Byrne for the second goal followed by a close range blast from Talyssa Tucker for goal number three.  Byrne was then fouled on her way through the defense and Yasmeen Dmeiri converted the penalty for the final goal.

10/5/15: Locals beat Cal Cougars in State Cup preliminaries

The Stampede are 1-0 in the early rounds of the Norcal State Cup, having beaten the Cal Cougars 3-0 last Sunday. Anne Ayotte started off the eventual shutout in the first half with a Klay Thompson style arc that floated just beyond the opposing keeper's reach and into the upper right corner. Lily Byrne followed with a Stephen Curry inspired dribble drive to beat the defense and bury goal number two. Skye Shaffer ended things with another defense-beating effort, this time more reminiscent of Golden State forward Draymond Green.

9/28/15: Stampede finalists in Davis Premier Cup

After routing three opponents in the qualifying rounds, the Stampede fell to the USA Stars in the championship match at last weekend's Davis Premier Cup held at the Davis Legacy Soccer Complex.  In Game 1 vs. the Cal Magic, Sophie Karperos got a hat trick, scoring all three goals from near the top of the penalty box with assists from Lily Byrne and Jordan Davis. Byrne added a fourth to end it 4-0. The locals continued their offensive onslaught against the Great Basin Intensity with a 5-1 victory.  This time time Davis contributed her own hat trick and two more goals came from Karperos and Grace Carlson, assists from Anne Ayotte (1) and Niya Allen (2). Facing ARFC, Davis got her second hat trick in as many games with assists from Ayotte (2) and Byrne (1). Leah Eccles then assisted Allen for the fourth goal and Karperos capped off the shutout with a fifth tally. The Stars showed up to the final with a much higher quality of soccer than previous opponents and edged the locals 1-0.

9/20/15: Stampede 3-1-1 for fall NPL

In a (literally) overheated battle vs. Elk Grove, the locals failed to net a goal despite several chances but salvaged a point in the 0-0 tie.

9/13/15: Locals now 3-1 in NPL

The Stampede picked up two more league wins over the weekend, beating MVLA, 3-1, and Juventus, 2-0, improving their National Premier League record to 3-0-1.  Sophia Karperos started Saturday's win with a quick steal and a tally after pressuring the center back in the box. Later, Jordan Davis tapped in Niya Allen's shot which was too hot for the keeper to handle. Anne Ayotte got the third and final goal from 18 on a back pass from Karperos.  Sunday's shutout featured a breakaway finish by Karperos off a through ball by Allen. Later, Ayotte walloped in a right side volley to end the game.  The Stampede travel Saturday to face top ranked Elk Grove at 2:30pm.

9/7/15: Stampede reach quarterfinals at SoCal Blues Cup

The locals made it to the quarterfinals at the So Cal Blues Cup held Labor Day weekend at the SoCal Soccer Complex in Oceanside, California. They started strong in the qualifying rounds, shutting out both the Cal Cougars, 2-0, and the Arizona Thunder, 6-0 and coming from behind to tie Real SoCal 1-1. Goals against the Cougars came from Jordan Davis at the 6 on a cross by Niya Allen and from Lily Byrne from 18 assisted by striker Talyssa Tucker. In routing the Thunder, Ainsley Carroll scored first on an Allen assist. Byrne was then hammered in the box and Davis netted the penalty for the 2-0 lead. An own-goal made it 3-0 with an assist by Anne Ayotte. Davis knocked in a ricocheting bouncer in the box to make it 4-0 and Byrne broke through the defense for the fifth tally with an assist by Skye Shaffer. Ayotte roped in a shot from 20 for goal number six. Game 3 was much more competitive as Real SoCal went ahead early. But Byrne found a way through the defense after to tie things up, securing a trip to the knockout rounds. Despite their high qualifying score, the Stampede found themselves facing the state's top ranked SoCal Blues in the quarterfinals. The locals surprised their opponent with intense hustle and offensive pressure early which paid off with a first-half goal. Ayotte whipped in a free kick from 25 and, after several blocked shots and ricochets, Sophie Karperos stepped in to bury the tally from 6 for the 1-0 lead. It was short lived, however, as the eventual tournament champions' physical dominance wore down the locals, beating them 3-1. The Stampede's impressive offensive showing was complemented by an equally tough defense led by center back Yasmeen Dmeiri, holding mid Skye Shaffer, and keeper McKenna Lutzker. Constant support and resilient play came from Leah Eccles, Sherlyn García, Lindsey Vernau, Grace Carlson, Sydney Moore and Grace Barger.

8/30/15: Stampede start NPL 1-1

The Stampede opened the Norcal National Premier League season with a win and a loss. The locals edged Santa Rosa 1-0 on a 30 foot blast by Yasmeen Dmeiri but fell to De Anza 2-0.  They face MVLA September 12th at the Davis Legacy Soccer Complex.

8/2/15: Stampede sizzle then fizzle at Surf Cup

The locals came out hot at this year's San Diego Surf Cup, beating San Diego Albion 4-2 in Game 1. Talyssa Tucker scored twice, first on a 10-yard volley off Yasmeen Dmeiri's cross and later chipping in a goalie ricochet.  Jordan Davis added two more, curling in goals from each side of the box, one off an assist by Sydney Moore. The locals went on to suffer a 0-1 loss on an own goal vs. the New Mexico Rio Rapids and the fell 0-3 to eventual tourney champion LA Rebels.

6/12/15: Stampede Semi-finalists in College Showcase

The locals got to the semis in the highly competitive Girls College Showcase tournament held at the Davis Legacy Soccer Complex June 10-12.  Jordan Davis and Yasmeen Dmeiri each had a goal to start things off with a 2-0 shutout vs. Castro Valley in Game 1.  Lily Byrne took over Game 2 vs. Long Beach with both goals in another 2-0 win, and Niya Allen and Davis added two more in the Stampede's third straight 2-0 shutout versus Placer United.  Despite their qualifying round dominance, the locals could not overcome their 0-1 deficit when facing eventual tournament champion LA Galaxy in the first knockout round.

6/8/15: Stampede win the Norcal Cross Regionals

The locals are currently sitting atop the charts in Northern California after going 3-0 in the Cross Regional Finals held at the Davis Legacy Soccer Complex over the weekend.  The Stampede made quick work of their first two opponents, shutting out both Menlo Park 2-0 and Placer United 3-0 on Saturday evening and Sunday morning with goals from Ainsley Carroll (2), Yasmeen Dmeiri (1), Jordan Davis (1) and Niya Allen (1).  The final match-up featured an exciting back and forth but the locals managed to dethrone the top-seeded De Anza Force 2-1.  J. Davis stole the ball from a flustered defender near the penalty spot early to put the locals up 1-0.  Although De Anza managed an equalizer in the second half, Anne Ayotte spoiled any chance of a comeback as she drilled another long range left footer into the left side netting for the winning goal.  Spring League and Cross Regional champs, the locals now look forward to a brief hiatus until July when they start the tough summer tournament circuit.

6/1/15: Stampede win final two games of spring regular season

The locals shut out the Cal Blues 3-0 and then sneaked by Placer United 2-1 to finish the Norcal regular spring season at the the top of Region 6.  Lily Byrne, Niya Allen and Talyssa Tucker scored in the shutout against the Blues Friday night.  The next morning, down 0-1 early, Allen volleyed in the equalizer off a corner by Jordan Davis. Then a few minutes later, Davis netted a wicked, sinking volley from 30 for the win.

5/25/15: Stampede Finalists in Santa Clara Sporting Invitational

The Stampede took second place in last weekend's Santa Clara Sporting Girls Invitational Tournament. The locals advanced to the semi-final after two wins and a tie in the qualifying round. Stampede left winger Niya Allen dominated the 4-1 victory in the first game against the Peninsula AC Odyssey as she powered in a hat trick while midfielder Lily Byrne added a fourth. After a 0-0 draw against the ever persistent Bay Oaks team, Davis would need at least four goals against the Clovis California Odyssey to move on. Anne Ayotte started off the eventual 4-0 victory by rocketing in a laser from 30 yards out. Byrne, Yasmeen Dmeiri and Talyssa Tucker then added three more with assists from Jordan Davis and Byrne.

Ayotte continued to showcase her long range power in the semi-final vs. the top ranked De Anza Force, scoring a hat trick on three set pieces. She bent in the first, Beckham-style, from just outside the 18 to put the locals up 1-0. When the locals found themselves down 1-2 after intermission, Ayotte roped in a corner kick, unassisted, for the equalizer. Keeper McKenna Lutzker kept the locals alive with a tough save late in the game. Then, with only minutes left, Ayotte secured the win and a trip to the finals with a 35 yard blast into the far left corner, just beyond the desperate reach of the opposing keeper.

Despite success in the previous rounds, much of it due to the locals' superb defensive play, the Stampede could not find an equalizer in the championship game after falling behind 0-1 vs. the ACC Mavericks and would have to settle for the silver.

5/15/15: Another Spring League Win

The locals beat San United 1-0 in a Friday night thriller.  Niya Allen knocked in the game's only goal as a corner kick ricocheted around the box.

5/12/15: Stampede are Davis Super Clásico Champions, Again!

The Davis Legacy Stampede are the Davis Super Clásico tournament champions for the second consecutive year, winning five straight to grab the title.

The locals started off the qualifying round Friday evening by defeating Oakland's Bay Oaks 1-0 after Grace Carlson knocked in a goal from 18. They continued Saturday morning, shutting out the Boise Idaho Rush 2-0 when Lily Byrne threaded the defense to make it 1-0 and Niya Allen sneaked in a near post grounder to seal the win. The Stampede's confidence, offensive power and defensive gallantry rose to top form Saturday afternoon as they defeated Northern California's second ranked Elk Grove, 3-1. Down 0-1 early, Allen drilled in a 30-yard equalizer from the left wing to end the first half. After intermission, Jordan Davis sent a through ball to Talyssa Tucker who beat two defenders in a foot race to make it 2-1. Byrne then got walloped as she headed the ball over a charging keeper, but Davis was there to bang it into the open net for the third and final goal. Without missing a beat, the Stampede came back with even more energy and resolve for Sunday morning's semi-final test against Northern California's top-ranked USA Stars. Still 0-0 at the start of the second half, Anne Ayotte found space on the left wing and blasted a 25-yard towering drive over the keeper's outstretched arms to put the locals up 1-0. When a late equalizer from the Stars sent the game to penalty kicks, Stampede keeper McKenna Lutzker stepped up to make two seemingly impossible saves and willed a third to ricochet off the side post while three decisive shots from Allie Belafsky, Leah Eccles, and Yasmeen Dmeiri secured the win and a trip to the finals.

While less dramatic, the final was no less thrilling as the Stampede shut out San Juan 3-0. The locals wasted no time as Dmeiri scored minutes after kickoff on a cross from Sophie Karperos. Karperos then netted the final two goals. The first came when the opposing keeper found herself some 30 yards off her line with the ball sailing well over her head and Karperos raced past her to dribble in a second tally. The keeper suffered a painful deja vu moment when she was again positioned well beyond the penalty area facing another Stampede offensive. This time, Karperos calmly turned and lobbed the ball into the open net, ending the game and sealing tournament gold.

Led by keeper Lutzker and center backs Belafsky and Grace Barger, the locals' team defensive domination throughout the tournament was awe inspiring. While Barger and Belafsky plugged up the middle and ran down countless offensive attacks, right back Sherlyn García denied all attempts to penetrate the left flank. Carlson, Eccles and Ainsley Carroll further corralled the opponents' attempts to get forward and defensive midfielders Lindsey Vernau and Sydney Moore stifled offensive advances. Dmeiri and Skye Shaffer took on double duty, playing both forward and midfield positions throughout the tournament, excelling in both roles.

5/4/15: More games, more Ws

The locals continued their winning ways as the spring season progressed, shutting out both Stockton’s Cal Cougars (2-0 on Saturday) and Elk Grove’s Inter Rage Academy Magic (4-0 on Sunday).

Jordan Davis scored twice for the locals, while Sophia Karperos, Niya Allen, Yasmeen Dmeiri, Lily Byrne and Leah Eccles (assisting the opponent’s own goal) each added one tally during the weekend.

Assists came from Davis, Byrne and Anne Ayotte during the solid two-game set.

4/19/15: Stampede start '15-16 season right

The Stampede have gone undefeated in their first five games of the Norcal Spring season.

The locals started with a 6-0 rout of the Stockton Cal Cougars in which Striker Jordan Davis secured two goals and Niya Allen one with assists from Anne Ayotte and Sherlyn García and added two of her own assists on goals by Ayotte and Sophie Karperos. Lily Byrne added the final goal to close out the match. A week later the Stampede defeated a physical Sacramento United 2-1. Byrne split two defenders to put Davis up 1-0 in first half then assisted J Davis who got past the back line for the second goal. A late tally from Sac not wasn't enough to stop their defeat. Sacramento's Galaxy Blues suffered the same fate the next day. J Davis scored twice on assists from Talyssa Tucker and Skye Shaffer. Niya Allen then tallied a put back on a J Davis attempt that ricocheted off the keeper. Karperos scored on a long run to blast in the final goal on a through-ball from J Davis. The following game against Placer United proved to be the toughest yet, ending in a 0-0 deadlock. The locals got back on track Sunday beating Elk Grove's Inter Rage 2-0 when J Davis scored twice, one off a Byrne assist.

Allowing just a single goal in five games illustrates the defensive prowess of keeper McKenna Lutzker and of the Stampede's impressive backfield: Allie Belafsky, Grace Barger, Grace Carlson, Sherlyn García, Lindsey Vernau, Ainsley Carroll, Sydney Moore, Leah Eccles and Yasmeen Dmeiri.

2/14/15: Stampede End Season Ninth in Norcal

The Stampede finished ninth in Northern California this season after going 8-1 in the Norcal's State Cup tournament held over the last several months. In nine games, the locals scored 19 goals and allowed only one, which came in a heartbreaking 0-1 loss to San Juan in a qualifying round, sending them to fight for the top spot in the 9-16 bracket. Davis dominated Saturday's 3-0 final with 20 shots to the California Odyssey's two. Nice job!
